Players 2-4     Time: 45 – 60 minutes     Ages: 10 and up

We have detailed instructions on how to play but check out our video below for some extra insight and a magical experience!

Princesses or Pirates?

Form a team of Princesses or Pirates… or maybe both, to claim the Citrine Hearts and defeat your enemies!

Each Character has its own special powers, but to really shake things up, get a few Magic or Plot cards involved! Use Element cards to activate powers or launch fierce attacks. Destroy enemy Characters (or even your own) and capture The Citrine Hearts.

Anytime cards allow you to act immediately to protect yourself or prevent someone from winning the game too soon! Always be prepared for the worst (or the best) amongst your friends. The first person to get a full team of Characters of all the same alignment and control The Citrine Hearts wins!

Team Setup

Who goes first?

Whoever most recently watched a magical girl show will go first. Each player will draw 1 Character card, 2 Story cards, and 3 Power cards. Turns should move clockwise around the table.

CHARACTER

HERO: The good guys and the magical protectors of their world. They can use Hero specific cards.

VILLAIN: The bad guys and powerful pirates trying to take control of the Citrine Hearts. They can use Villain specific cards.

WILD: Characters that aren’t necessarily good or evil. They count as both a Hero and Villain.

STORY

PLOT These affect players more than characters. They can involve stealing, destroying, drawing cards, and more!

GEAR Equip these to characters to make them stronger or weaker. Only one Gear card may be equipped to a character at one time and it now belongs to them as well.

POWER

MAGIC Played to increase your power or other interesting effects. Use Star power cards to increase your offense and heart power cards to increase your defense.

ELEMENT Play these  cards to unleash powerful attacks or activate some character’s abilities. Characters can only use Elements that match their own!

What to do on your turn

DRAW:
Draw 2 cards from any combination of Decks.

SKIP (Optional):
If you don’t play any cards or attack you may draw 1 additional card.

PLAY:

  1. You may play 1 Character card.
  2. You may play any amount of Story and Power cards.
  3. You may activate abilities. Each Character may only do this once per turn.

ATTACK:
You may attack once per turn to defeat a Character. Your SP must be equal to or higher than their HP. Attacking ends your turn.

AFTER:
Your hand may only have a maximum of 10 cards. At the end of your turn, discard until you have 10.

Attacking

Heart Power (HP) is your defensive stat and Star Power (SP) is your offensive stat. In order to defeat a Character with an attack, your SP must be equal to or greater than your opponent’s HP.

Star Power cards and Heart Power cards are used to boost your stats further without using a Gear card. Star Power cards equipped to a Character will be discarded once you attack another Character.

How to win the game

The first person with a full team of all Heroes or Villains while controlling The Citrine Hearts wins the game!

2 players: A team of 5 Heroes or Villains

3 players: A team of 4 Heroes or Villains

4 players: A team of 3 Heroes or Villains

Words you need to know

Defeat any player’s Character with one of your Characters only if your SP meets or exceeds the HP.

DISCARD:
Send a card to the appropriate Discard Pile.

DRAW:
Allows you to pick up 1 or more cards from any Deck or a specified Deck.

PLAY:

RETURN:
A card in play will go back to the owner’s hand. Any cards that are equipped also go back to the owner’s hand unless otherwise specified.

SEARCH:
Find a card in a Deck or Discard Pile. If you SEARCH a Deck, shuffle it afterwards.

STEAL:
Take a card from another player’s hand or team. If you take a Character in play, you also take all equipped cards to that Character.

TRANSFORM:
Play a new form onto a Character card. This counts as playing a Character unless otherwise stated.

ANYTIME:
Can be played on anyone’s turn, at any point, during the game.

The Citrine Hearts

The Citrine Hearts is what you’re fighting for! Once a Character defeats another Character with an attack, that player will take possession of The Citrine Hearts from the middle of the table and equip it to the victorious Character. If the Character owning The Citrine Hearts is defeated by an attack, the newly victorious Character now takes possession of The Citrine Hearts.

If the Character who holds The Citrine Hearts is returned, or discarded by a Plot or Magic card, an adjacent Character the same player owns will now hold The Citrine Hearts. If at any point you do not have a Character on your team available to attach The Citrine Hearts to, return it to the start position.

To win the game you must have a full team of either Heroes or Villains and must control The Citrine Hearts on your turn. Using ANYTIME cards during a moment when someone is about to win is encouraged, and is the  only way for you to prevent someone from winning the game at the last second!

More Rules

After the first round, if The Citrine Hearts have not been claimed yet and a player has 3 Characters on their team (2 Characters while playing with 3 players or 1 Character while playing with 4 players) while no one else has any, that player may claim The Citrine Hearts.

Transformation Characters are represented by a Transform icon beside the nameplate. These cards can only be played on top of another Character to change them into their next form.

All Characters must be in play before their abilities can be activated. Some Character abilities activate immediately and only can be used once per Play. While other abilities may be activated later and may be used multiple times.

A maximum of 5 Characters can be played on your team. You may attack your own Characters.
